Student Portraits Before & After Instruction
Below is a sampling of “before” and “after” portraits completed by students in my Drawing I courses. The length of time between the two drawings is approximately 8-10 weeks. My students do not use grids, projectors, or trace for these portraits; rather, I teach them how to strengthen the way they see proportions and the relation of objects to one another through a series of exercises and projects before this one. Few of the students represented in this sample were art students and many had very little art experience prior to taking my course. Some of these portraits went on to win awards. In over 20 years of teaching drawing I never fail to be impressed by the results!
